Sean Combs’ mom hospitalized: ‘They think stress is a factor’

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother has been hospitalized.

A source close to the situation told NBC News that the rapper and music mogul is with his mother, Janice Combs, in the hospital.

“She is still in the hospital. She has not been released yet. She is being kept under observation,” the source says, adding that Janice Combs, 84, asked for her son and he has been by her side ever since.

According to the source, Janice Combs was admitted to the hospital on July 10 after experiencing chest pains.

He has had several tests, but the diagnosis is not yet known. The source says that “they believe stress is a factor.”

Janice Combs is in good health, the source said, but underwent brain surgery this year.

“The stress of all this has been very great for her. I think overall she is supportive of her son,” the source told NBC News.

The news of Janice Combs’ hospitalization comes amid Sean Combs’ legal troubles. Earlier this month, NBC News reported that the “Last Night” rapper is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation in the Southern District of New York.

On July 3, sources told NBC News that there are no pending charges against the entertainer at this time. Additionally, the entertainer’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami have been raided by police and he has faced a series of sexual assault allegations and civil lawsuits in recent months. Combs has denied all previous allegations.

However, in May, surveillance video obtained by CNN showed Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, in 2016.

Sean Combs issued an apology in an Instagram video he later deleted, saying his behavior in the surveillance video, which included him dragging Ventura across the floor, was “inexcusable.”

“I’m so sorry,” Combs said in part, later adding, “I was screwed, I hit rock bottom, but I don’t make excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.”

As for Janice Combs, she was a single mother to son Sean Comb and daughter Keisha Combs and worked three jobs.

“She has been very present,” the source says, “acting as both parents” to her children. The source adds that Janice Combs is also “very involved with the grandchildren.”

Janice Combs is expected to be released from the hospital on July 11 but will be kept under observation and for additional testing, the source said.
