“In a way, I had no choice,” he shared. “There were so many stories told about me during that time that I wondered how anyone would know the truth. So it really came from my wanting to be honest, to want to say, ‘Is all this stuff you’re hearing? It’s ‘not right. This is what happened'”.

Gomez continued: “I have bipolar disorder [disorder], and I had to learn a lot of things about myself, and it wasn’t easy. And, you know, some days it still isn’t. But I knew that if I didn’t say anything, someone else would. It wasn’t fair.”

The Grammy-nominated singer also shared how her makeup brand, Rare Beauty, earned her nickname.

She said she named her beauty line after her anthem, “Rare,” because “it basically says I don’t have it all figured out, but I know I’m worth it and I know I deserve good things.” “

“When we started talking about getting into the beauty space, I knew I had to be different. I wanted to stand out and show people that I cared about more than just products, and that’s how it started. I called the product Rare — it was pretty hard to get, but it was worth it, and now it means so much more to me,” Gomez said.
