Sergey Lipinets officially replaces Adrien Broner, now set to face Omar Figueroa this Saturday

It’s official. After the news broke this morning that Adrien Broner pulled out of this weekend’s Showtime main event against Omar FigueroaShowtime has just announced that they have placed Sergey Lipinets to take Broner’s place in the featured fight.

Lipinets had already lined up to appear on the undercard for this fight, and it will now take place as the headliner, saying he has been preparing for any opportunity that comes his way for months.

“In fact, we’ve been in camp for almost three months preparing for whoever they put in front of me,” Lipinets said. “We have been training without a particular opponent in mind. There have been a few different guys who have said they wanted to fight me. So, we have been training and preparing for all kinds of styles. And now we have this great news that I get to fight Figueroa this Saturday. I can’t wait to show everyone that I’m still a force to be reckoned with at 140 pounds.”

As for Figueroa, he says he’s still eager to show off the new kind of fighter he’s become after taking time out, and he hopes Lipinets is prepared for what’s to come.

“This is going to be a great fight against the Lipinets and I hope he is ready for what I bring,” Figueroa said. “I have made changes in my life and I am excited to see the type of fighter I am now. I am going to show what I can do now that I have a clear head and a clear path ahead. With the change of opponent, I am even more prepared to take all the frustrations and anger that have built up in camp and bring it to the ring on Saturday and emerge victorious.”
