His defense requested that Shillingford be assessed for mental illness at the end of November. The results of the evaluation have not been filed in the Olmsted County Court; nevertheless, if Shillingford is found to be cognitively impaired, case may be settled before jury trial.
Shillingford’s defense has also moved to have two Olmsted County judges removed from the case after filing for mental illness.
According to court documents, the defense has requested that Judges Pamela King and Christina Stevens be removed from the case.
A third judge had not been assigned to the case as of Monday, December 12.
