It must be declared competent before the case can move forward. A competency evaluation should determine that you understand the charges against you and can significantly assist your attorney, depending on state law.
Sterffy is scheduled for a review of that case on March 10, after a hearing was held on January 13.
When Sterffy was 20, he was committed to a state psychiatric hospital and has mental health problems, including paranoid schizophrenia, Aye’s daughter told investigators.
The daughter also said she believes Sterffy stopped taking her medication in 2019.
Sterffy said he was sexually and physically assaulted while in the mental hospital and blamed his father for putting him in that situation, the daughter told investigators. He also blamed his father for ruining his life.
Sterffy was not granted bail.
