Diet for new mothers: Breastfeeding mothers should include super foods in their postpartum diet

Diet for new mothers: Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor welcomed their daughter on Sunday. It is crucial for new mothers what they eat after giving birth. The expectant mother and her child were sustained for nine months by the food she ate. However, her diet is just as crucial after giving birth. Extra calories are needed while breastfeeding. She may need an extra 500-600 calories per day if she has lost all the pregnancy weight. New mothers should also increase their fluid intake like milk, juice and water to quench their thirst. Any kind of liquid is acceptable, but try to avoid consuming too many things that contain caffeine.

A new-mom should keep the following things in mind:

  • Include protein-rich foods including meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, beans, nuts, and seeds 2-3 times per day.
  • If you avoid meat, be sure to consume additional sources of iron and zinc such as legumes, dried fruit, nuts, seeds and dairy.
  • Eat three servings of vegetables every day, including yellow and dark green ones.
  • Include whole grains in your diet every day, such as oatmeal, cereal, and whole wheat bread.

A healthy diet promotes healing and gives a new mother the strength she needs to care for her little one. Fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables at each meal. The other half of a new mom’s diet should consist of whole grains, and avoid packaged, processed foods and beverages that are heavy in salt, saturated fat, and added sugar.
