Dr. Carrie Ruxton, of the Health and Food Supplement Information Service, explained that the purpose of supplements is to prevent disease, but rather to close dietary gaps.

Dr Ruxton added: “Vitamin E intake is not measured in the current UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey, but it is estimated that more than 90 per cent of people in the US do not consume enough vitamin E. to meet your average daily needs.
