New Delhi: There is nothing as relaxing as a cup of tea – A well-brewed, hot cup of the drink is known to have a calming effect on the nerves like no other. And now, the wonder that tea is, experts associate it with a longer and healthier life.
In various cultures, people enjoy various forms of tea: green tea, chai latte, black tea, or herbal tea. Some like to drink it as is, while others prefer to add whole spices to boost the flavor and nutritional quotient of the drink. And according to a new study, those who drink two or more cups of black tea in a day have a 9 to 13 percent lower risk of death compared to those who don’t drink black tea. And what’s more, the benefits were the same regardless of whether milk or sugar was used or not, the same goes for coffee.

The study that appeared in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that 89 percent of regular tea drinkers consumed black tea. Other variations of the drink included green tea, which is also known to have various health benefits.

Speaking of the health benefits of tea, studies have previously stated how drinking the beverage regularly could fight heart disease, dementia, and cancer. This effect is attributed to antioxidants in the drink that removes harmful atoms from the blood and reduces inflammation. Another study revealed that drinking five beers in a day could also help improve brain function.

At the same time, it’s important not to swallow a scalding cup of tea, as it could significantly increase your risk of throat cancer or esophageal cancer by damaging your food pipe, known as thermal injury.
