Talking helped Joel Gujral launch his mental health app Myndup

A chance encounter over a start-up training plan has led to a mental health app getting £4.4m in funding, prompting its founder to extol the virtues of networking.

Joel Gujral, who created Myndup in 2020, said he realized the importance of talking about his ideas with as many people as possible when he randomly met two people who became major investors.

He met the first, James Lock, managing director of asset manager Blackstone, in late 2019 at a business development program organized by the Entrepreneur Center charity.

Lock initially became his mentor, but the pair struck up “such a good relationship,” according to Gujral, that Lock has since led each of the four opening-stage rounds.
