The CDC Just Issued a New Public Health Alert in Its Massive Cheese Recall

the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a new public health alert as part of a massive cheese recall initially announced By the end of September.

According to a CDC announcement published Tuesday, bulk Brie and Camembert cheese sold in eight states has been added to the list of previously recalled products sold at retailers across the country. These cheeses, which were likely repackaged and sold under other brand names, were distributed to 80 stores in eight states: Alabama, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Retailers receiving affected bulk cheeses include multiple chain locations, including Shaws, Plum Market, Star Market and Winn-Dixie.

Old Europe Cheese supplies cheese under multiple brand names. The recall products are potentially contaminated with listeria. According to the CDC, contaminated products have caused six illnesses and five hospitalizations. The products contain expiration dates between September 28, 2022 and December 14, 2022, with various UPC codes for Brie, Baked Brie and Camembert cheeses. The affected cheeses were sold in retail stores across the country and in Mexico. They include Albertsons, Lidl, Giant Foods, Stop & Shop and Whole Foods. If you have purchased recalled cheese, you should not eat it and should throw it away. You should also clean your refrigerator, containers, and surfaces that might have come into contact with the affected cheese. Listeria can spread easily to other surfaces and foods.
