In a video, sports teacher and YouTube fitness guru. alex lorenz talked about the fastest way to burn fat. He is the co-founder of Calisthenics Movement and has trained Calisthenics since 2012, uploading videos regularly for those interested in getting fit using only their body weight.
The fastest way to burn fat
1. Build more muscle
Cardio sessions aren’t inherently bad, says Lorenz, but they are a drop in the bucket compared to strength sessions for fat loss.
Muscle mass increases total daily energy expenditure. “That means the more muscle mass you have, the more energy your body will burn throughout the day because it has to supply energy to those muscles.”
More muscle means you burn more calories even when you rest.
Instead of just doing cardio or resistance exercises, implement some type of hypertrophy training and focus on strength.
2. Intermittent fasting
intermittent fasting It can be done in two ways: restricting eating for several hours every day or restricting eating for longer periods per week (24 or even 36 hours).
Intermittent fasting is one of the fastest ways to burn fat because it increases hormone levels and lowers insulin levels, Lorenz explains.
There are still studies to be done on the long-term effects of intermittent fasting in people and it shouldn’t be seen as the holy grail of weight loss, but it can help people consume fewer calories throughout the week.
3. Calorie Cycle
Cutting calories is the only way to lose weight. This will definitely work at first, but your body will try to adjust and counter that calorie shortage to preserve itself. To address that, you need to calorie cycle where you consume more calories from time to time.
When you use a caloric cycling approach, you can avoid this “survival mode” effect by your body “because you’re constantly changing your caloric intake,” so your body doesn’t get the signal to adjust to a lower caloric intake.
4.HIIT/LISS
- HIIT: total intensity of cardiovascular exercise
- LISS: cardio that you can do for long periods of time without difficulty
LISS increases the amount of fat as your main source of energy over time, HIIT uses glycogen for fuel. Both burn about the same amount of calories, but HIIT is more effective over time and has a higher epoch effect
