The ‘Galveston Diet’: How one Houston-area doctor is revolutionizing menopause care

HOUSTON – Ladies, if you are in your 30s or older and notice what seem like strange symptoms, it could be perimenopause.

A local doctor is gaining an international following for her nutrition-based plan to combat symptoms, and it all started with her own weight-loss journey in her 40s.

Dr. Mary Claire Haver, a board-certified OB/GYN and culinary medicine expert, is helping women as they approach perimenopause and menopause with her popular online nutrition program, “The Galveston Diet.” .

The program educates women about the impact their food choices and possible mineral deficiencies have on symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, anxiety and depression.

When Dr. Haver’s method of calorie restriction and exercise wasn’t working, she turned to researchers at her hospital for answers. They provided studies showing that middle-aged women were having a change in body composition and that the quality of the food they ate had a negative impact on the hormones that control where and how women store fat.

Dr. Haver said she went down the research rabbit hole and created “The Galveston Diet,” a lifestyle plan that includes intermittent fasting, eating anti-inflammatory foods and refocusing on limiting simple carbohydrates and increasing fat healthy, quality proteins and carbohydrates. .

With two million social media followers, Dr. Haver’s appeal goes beyond her Friendswood wellness clinic. She just finished the first book of hers which will be released in January. For more information about the plan, her book, and her blog, Click here.
