“The system is truly broken.” I’m a personal trainer. Here are 5 things I hate about the fitness industry.

They made me feel that if I wasn’t starving, then I wasn’t working hard enough. A ‘meal’ was even a teaspoon of peanut butter. Let me tell you: I licked that spoon clean!

Physiologically, if you’re exercising (or even if you’re not), you need to eat enough fuel to meet your individual needs. Instead, PTs offer their clients standard diet plans that are too restrictive and don’t take into account their individual circumstances.

These are not sustainable. And they are definitely not healthy. If you want to adopt a slightly healthier lifestyle, simply incorporating more movement into your daily life as part of running errands, socializing, or playing with your kids is much more maintainable and sustainable.

Your physical and mental health go hand in hand. Appreciate your body for what it can do, don’t be persuaded to notice what it supposedly lacks. Your mental well-being is very important.

5. There is not enough importance in intrinsic motivation.

Everyone makes New Year’s Resolutions; save money for a house, eat healthier, call your friends more.

As you know, it’s not as simple as opening a savings account, buying more green stuff, or hitting the dial button.

Life happens! There has to be an intrinsically driven focus for you.

When it comes to nurturing your overall health, there’s no point in preparing your meals, shopping for new workout gear, and planning your days if you don’t have a reason that’s so strong, so deep, so moving that there can be no Plan B.

Look to exercise to extend life, even for the oldest, study say | CNN

If you decide to make changes to your lifestyle, these changes are entirely up to you in the first place, and they don’t impress you for all the reasons I’ve mentioned in this article. Then you need to find a deep-seated and emotional motivation.

When you have intrinsically self-directed reason, your successes along the way will be much more rewarding because you only have yourself to thank.

You will find joy and gratitude in the process, not just in the distant outcome. Your promises to yourself have integrity and you have put yourself first. You trust that you will always discover what is best for you and no one else.
