Infection found in North Para state of Brazil
According to media reports, a case of Mad Cow Disease has come to light in the state of Para, located in the north of Brazil. Local agricultural experts have said that this disease develops suddenly in nature and causes infection in cows. How does this happen though. Its investigation is going on. What is the nature of the disease? Samples have been sent to the International Organization for Animal Health’s laboratory in Alberta, Canada, for testing.
Disease known as BSE
Made cow disease is also known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). There is a fatal infection. It affects the central nervous system of adult animals. Slowly starts destroying them. The tissues of the nervous system of the brain and spinal cord change upon coming in contact with these proteins and begin to destroy themselves. In this disease, the infected cow starts having problems in getting up and walking. It takes 4 to 6 years for the symptoms of this disease to appear. However, sometimes the symptoms appear quickly. When the infection increases, the cow dies.
Is it dangerous for humans too?
Made cow disease is a serious disease. Experts say that the chances of getting this disease in a person are less. But if infected meat is consumed, then it increases the risk of getting sick. Therefore, consumption of meat should be avoided during the spread of this disease. In this disease, brain cells get damaged. In this the patient starts forgetting. There are problems in walking. His muscle control also decreases. Till the end the condition is such that the nervous system fails. The patient dies. The presence or absence of this disease is checked by ECG, brain MII or substances found in the brain or spinal cord.
