Two held over involvement in CoWIN data ‘leak’ – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: A Bihar man has been arrested and a minor has been detained in connection with their involvement in the alleged data leak from CoWIN Portal, authorities said Thursday. The man is alleged to have used a Telegram app to leak the data, they said.

There have been complaints of breach of citizen data registered in the CoWIN platform, and opposition parties have called on the government to take deterrent measures.

The government called such reports “malicious” and “without any foundation”, while stating that the CoWIN portal is completely safe with adequate safeguards for data privacy.

The matter was sent for review by the country’s nodal cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, which said in its initial report that the Telegram bot’s backend database, which is at the center of the alleged leak, I wasn’t directly accessing the APIs. from the CoWIN database.

In a statement, the Union Health Ministry also said that an internal exercise has been launched to review existing security measures.

The CoWIN portal is a repository of all the data of all those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the country.
