U-WIN Portal: Digital way to track pregnant women, children for vaccination in Himachal, Health News, ET HealthWorld


Shimla: As a pilot project in Himachal PradeshSolan and Sirmaur districts, the government has launched U-WIN portala digital way to facilitate the monitoring of each pregnant woman and children for vaccination.

Under the project sponsored by the Center, these districts have been included among those selected in the country. The objective of the project is to increase the children’s immunity and prevent them from various diseases.

Complete information about maternal and vaccines for children will be available on the portal. Himachal Pradesh has an estimated target of vaccinating more than one lakh newborn babies and around 1.27 lakh pregnant women a year.

The portal has been developed along the lines of CoWIN portal. The data of all vaccination recipients will be available on the portal from time to time after the birth of the child. All government and private hospitals are also linking to the U-WIN portal.

All beneficiaries will receive information about their vaccination via SMS. The outstanding feature of the portal is that after the completion of the vaccination process, the beneficiary will also get the vaccination certificate.

In order for the beneficiary to register on the U-WIN portal, an Aadhaar card and a mobile phone number must be provided at the vaccination center. The state government, through the Ministry of Health, vaccinates children against diseases that mainly include rotavirustuberculosis, measles, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis-B, etc.

For vaccination, there are 390 cold chains in the state. As a pilot project, the U-WIN portal will cover 42 cold chains in the Solan and Sirmaur districts. Currently, an estimated 43,000 beneficiaries will receive benefits annually through the U-WIN portal.

It is estimated that 11,000 children in the 0-1 age group and 13,000 pregnant women in Solan district, while 9,100 children and 10,000 pregnant women in Sirmaur district will benefit from the portal.
