Victoria Beckham may be giving Sporty Spice a run for its money. The pop star turned fashion designer has been changing up her workout routine, surprising even herself with a newfound love for Weight trainingrevealed in a new interview with Funny.

Giving up your usual Tracey Anderson Method Classes and cardio sessions, Beckham now does squats every morning and lifts weights five to six days a week with her husband and personal trainer, she told the magazine.

“I’ve always been a little scared of weights, but I happen to love them. I even have those special gloves to wear!” Beckham said in the interview. “It’s nice to switch things up and keep your body guessing. I have a lot more muscle tone now.” (Psst: take a look the best weightlifting gloves and discover how to clean them.)

So what spurred this change in opinion about strength training? “It’s an old-fashioned attitude: wanting to be really skinny,” he said in a recent interview. “I think women today want to look curvy and healthy. They want to have some boobs and a butt,” she added. Turns out she relates to this sentiment herself, admitting that she wants “as good a butt as she can get.”

If building muscle is what you’re looking for, lifting weights is definitely the way to go. Weight training has all kinds of benefits, and it doesn’t have to make you look “bulky,” if that worries you. “Lifting heavy weights is a great way to get the body shape you may be looking for,” Jacques Crockford, CSCSspokesman for the American Council on Exercise, previously said Way. “Want a firmer butt? Do squats and deadlifts,” Crockford added.

While Beckham seems to have a goal in mind, she’s not focused on being a certain size, she shared in a recent interview. “It’s about knowing who you are and being happy with who you are,” the 48-year-old said. “I’ve found my own balance between wanting to have fun and being disciplined in eating healthy and exercising. When you’re younger you struggle with that balance, but getting older I’ve gotten to a point where I know what that balance is.” It seems. I just know what works for me.”

As for working out with her former football player and model husband? He is “hilarious,” she said. Funny. “I mean, obviously he’s amazing in the gym, but in our sessions, he’s always the one procrastinating.”

To take a page out of Beckham’s book, consider trying weight training or getting a training partner who can help you change your usual exercise routine.
