Why can’t we just walk or ride a bike?” PM Modi said at the global launch of ‘Mission LiFE’ in Gujarat’s Kevadia.
In addition, he praised “pro-planet people” for using LED bulbs to reduce energy consumption. “Our government started an LED bulb scheme in which the private sector also participated. International experts present here would be surprised to learn that Indians installed more than 160 million rupees worth of LED bulbs. It has led to a reduction of 100 million tons of carbon dioxide every year,” the prime minister added.
Prime Minister Modi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday launched Mission LiFE, a global action plan aimed at saving the planet from the disastrous consequences of climate change. The launch comes ahead of next month’s UN climate mega-meeting in Egypt.
Modi and Guterres jointly launched the action plan, a list of lifestyle change ideas that can be adopted as climate-friendly behaviour, along with the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) logo and slogan. ). Modi said Mission LiFE will strengthen the concept of a pro-people planet, adding that it aims to pursue a three-pronged strategy to shift people’s collective approach to sustainability.
This includes encouraging people to practice simple but effective environmentally friendly actions in their daily lives (demand), enabling industries and markets to respond quickly to changing demand (supply), and influencing government and industry policy to support both sustainable consumption and production.
