Kolkata: Learning from COVID and current events GONNA surge, where patients had complaints that they had to jump from one hospital to another to get a bed, the West Bengal Clinical Facilities Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has decided to develop a portal that provides bed availability data in real time in private hospitals.

Now this help line will expand the services to guide patients with information about the availability of beds.
“The infrastructure for the 24X7 helpline is almost ready and we have applied for a toll free number from BSNL. Similar to what was done during the Covid-19 pandemic, the proposed web portal will have real-time input of private hospital bed vacancies. Anyone who calls our helpline will be guided accordingly so they don’t have to rush from hospital to hospital,” said WBCERC Chairman Judge (ret.) Ashim Kumar Banerjee.
The decision was made during a meeting called by the health commission that included representatives from private hospitals and senior officials from the state health department.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the health commission also requested a full report from all private hospitals on the number of ARI cases, including confirmed adenoviral infection, mortality data and admission rate. Hospitals were told to present their preparedness plan not only in the current scenario but also for any type of increase in disease in the future.
“Hospitals have seven days to submit the report,” Banerjee added. On Tuesday, the health department also engaged experienced paediatricians and other health experts from the IMA and IPA (Indian Academy of Paediatrics) to raise awareness of ARI among paediatricians and general practitioners.
