Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome: One or the other wonder keeps happening in different parts of the world. However, some cases are such that it becomes difficult to believe. Have you ever heard of a person who has a male reproductive organ as well as a female reproductive organ? Of course you must be thinking how childish this is. But this is not a joke. Such a surprising case has been seen in Faridabad, adjacent to the capital Delhi.

In fact, along with male reproductive organ, female reproductive organ has also been found in a 30-year-old male resident of Faridabad, Uttar Pradesh. This man was born with both the reproductive organs. According to the information, this person was married 5 years ago. Both husband and wife wanted a child. However, in spite of many efforts, this wish of his could not be fulfilled. Both felt that this might be happening because of some physical problem. So he turned to Amrita Hospital in Faridabad to find a solution.

Shocked to hear the truth

After reaching the hospital, he came to know such a thing, which shocked him. Actually doctors told that the person is suffering from Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS). It is a genetic disorder of sexual development, which affects males. A person suffering from this disorder has male reproductive organs as well as female reproductive organs. This happens because the gonadal (hormone-producing glands) structures being formed during pregnancy have to undergo defective development.

300 cases seen worldwide so far

Instead of disappearing female parts like uterus, fallopian tubes and sometimes ovaries develop into a male child and remain till adulthood. So far around 300 cases of Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome have been seen worldwide. Doctors at Faridabad Hospital performed robotic surgery on a man to remove the female reproductive organ. Abnormal female parts like uterus, fallopian tubes, round ligament and gonads were successfully removed from the person through robotic surgery. It was told that the person was suffering from this disorder since birth. If this disorder is detected late, then the patient may also be at risk of a fatal disease like cancer.
