What is endoscopy and how is it done?
During endoscopy, an endoscope camera is inserted inside the body through the throat, anus or urinary tract, keeping in mind the disease in the body to be investigated. Before this, that part of the body is numbed through spray or anesthesia. This camera is very small and the patient does not have any pain or any kind of problem. Therefore, usually the patient is not even sedated during endoscopy.
Why is endoscopy done?
- When a person is having any kind of problem in the internal organs of the body, in that case endoscopy is used to detect the disease.
- When the X-ray does not give a clear report of any organ, even then endoscopy is done as per the need.
- Endoscopy is also done during anal cancer conditions, in which colonoscopy is done, which is a part of endoscopy itself.
How long does endoscopy take?
Endoscopy is done within about an hour. Before this, the doctor can tell the avoidance of some things and may advise to take some medicines. It depends on which organ through which your endoscopy is to be done. For example, when an endoscopy is done through the anus, which is called colonoscopy, before this the doctor gives medicine for loose motion and recommends taking only liquid diet. So that the intestine and anal passage are completely cleared and the required result of endoscopy can be obtained.
