Munawwar Faruqui recently spoke openly about his son’s illness. Munawwar said her son suffered from a rare disease called Kawasaki. We suffered from it. Today we will talk about this disease in detail. Kawasaki disease was first reported in 1961 by Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki in a 4-year-old boy and he later reported about 50 such cases. It was not recognized as a serious illness until after 1970 and its cardiovascular complications could not be better studied until 1976. Recently, Munawar Faruqui spoke about his 1.5 year old son who suffered from Kawasaki disease .
Symptoms of Kawasaki disease
Symptoms of this disease include persistent high fever (5 days or more), red, dry, cracked lips, red tongue called “strawberry tongue”. These include red eyes and painful swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck. Other associated symptoms include irritability in young children, decreased swelling of the hands and feet, and peeling of the skin around the nails during the second to third week of the illness. Rash, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, red eyes, red or cracked lips or tongue, swollen hands and feet, peeling skin, and burning sensation in the throat, mouth, and lips.
Up to what age is there a risk of contracting this disease?
Be under 5 years old. of Pacific Islander or Asian descent
In countries where BCG is administered, sudden reactivation will also be seen with erythema and redness around the scar at the BCG site. When blood tests are done, the reports show features that overlap with the infection, i.e. an increase in inflammatory markers. However, unless this disease is properly identified and treated. Fever and other symptoms do not respond to regular antibiotic treatments. Not all features of Kawasaki disease are seen in all children, and the presence of some of these features raises suspicion for assessment. Heart problems can also occur due to this disease.
