UTI or urinary tract infection is an infection in any part of the urinary bladder. Although it is a common condition, it is said that women are more prone to this health problem. The infection usually also spreads to the lower urinary bladder, urethra, and kidneys. With summers in motion, the risk of UTIs increases in hot, muggy weather, making it a bit more uncomfortable.
Why do UTI cases increase in summer?
The summer months can lead to dehydration and that is one of the main causes that increases the risk of UTI. When you’re dehydrated, your body doesn’t have enough fluids to flush toxins out of your bladder. Additionally, hot and humid weather conditions provide fertile ground for the growth of bacteria and germs. When the summer sizzles bright, sweat and perspiration rain down and that can also facilitate bacterial infection. The most common bacteria associated with UTIs is Escherichia coli (E. coli), and this is responsible for most infections. The bacteria is found naturally in the intestine, but the problem occurs if it enters the urethra. Women of any age group can suffer from it.
