Maximum performance has helped hundreds of people lose weight and feel more confident. Adele Bailey, 45, turned to fitness experts for motivation after her weight loss leveled off.
Before joining UP, Adele was a size 12 and weighed 71kg. She explained that “from a young age I struggled with my weight and my body image.”
“After finally having a successful pregnancy after IVF and a few years of trying to beat the lump, I felt it was time for my body to be at its best. I wanted to approach the new motherhood in my best form,” she added.
Throughout her IVF process, Adele’s body changed a lot and she suffered from ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is a response to excess hormones.
“For me, this happened because of the injectable hormonal drugs I was using to stimulate the
development of eggs in the ovaries while undergoing fertility treatment. OHS causes
ovaries swell and become painful. I experienced tenderness in the area of my ovaries and a lot of abdominal pain during the time I used injectable hormonal medications,” she said.
And Adele’s “relationship with food and exercise changed” while undergoing fertility treatment, too.

“I saw the whole process of getting pregnant and having a healthy and successful pregnancy as a
enriching experience. I didn’t want to put any more stress on my body, so I stopped all high-impact activities during the process,” he explained.
“During this time, I finally started to see food for what it really is, a source of fuel for my body. I tried to choose foods that would enrich my body, but with all the visits to the hospital, it was difficult at times. Between working and keeping multiple hospital appointments and undergoing many surgical procedures, I often ended up grabbing food on the go or relying on it when I needed comfort.
“Unfortunately, any foods I ate while away from home or choices I made to help comfort myself weren’t always the healthiest for my body.
“Looking back, I can see that I should have been more prepared and organized around food choices throughout this time, but at the time, all I could focus on was how I felt at any given moment with regarding fertility treatment and how it was progressing. Nutrition and exercise took a backseat as I focused on trying to conceive.”

Before embarking on her new fitness journey, Adele “considered that she was reasonably fit but needed to improve.”
“A recent fracture in my foot and problems with my hip prevented me from exercising. My emotional mindset was strong, but I had bodily issues with how I viewed myself. I have always had a hard time accepting my body image and the excess fat I carried, ”she added.
“My body type means that I carry most of my weight in the lower half of my body, which was hard to hide from others. In my mind, my weight battle was daily as I was often unhappy with what I saw in the mirror.
But, with a personal trainer and a new meal plan, Adele transformed her body in 18 weeks.
She now weighs 57 kg (8.9 stone) and is “known to sometimes go to the children’s section” for clothes, as she is a size six to ten depending on the store.

As for the exercises she did to help her lose 2.2 stones, Adele revealed: “In the beginning, my expert trainer, Darragh, trained me with weightlifting exercises three times a week with two different programs, in addition to this, I had than trying to get 10,000 steps a day. .
“After a while, my activity levels increased to help me lose weight, and this was in the form of 30 minutes of exercise on the remaining four days of each week.”
She also shared what she ate: “My personal choice is to follow a plant-based/vegan diet. Darragh taught me the importance of protein in my diet and the ways I could include plant-based protein in my daily life. I was on a strict calorie count with a high protein, low carb intake.”
Adele hoped to achieve “total fat loss” and “followed Darragh’s instructions to the letter”.
“I didn’t go off plan when it came to food and I made sure to go to all the training sessions with her,” he explained. “I found it more difficult to stay committed to the 10,000 steps a day and 30 minutes of exercise, although I made sure that this remained a priority in my day.”
As for how she feels now, both physically and emotionally, Adele revealed: “I feel so much happier with my fitness and body image. I still have a hard time accepting the imperfections I see when I look in the mirror, but I can also see how far I’ve come and where I plan to go next.”
Adele also had some advice for anyone considering a weight loss transformation: “Stop making excuses and instead set a goal. Do not stop taking that first step.
“Of course, you won’t achieve everything you want in the first week of trying, but knowing you’re on the right track will help you succeed and reach the goals you’ve set for yourself.”
