Heart disease in women : Until a few years ago, it was believed that women are less likely to have a heart attack, but many researches and incidents have proven that women are not immune from heart diseases either. Compared to men, they are at higher risk of heart disease. A study presented at the Cardiology Summa 2024 in Delhi found that deaths due to heart diseases have declined but cases have increased among women. In 2016, the American Heart Association officially recognized that women are at higher risk of heart attacks.
Which heart disease is most at risk in women?
According to health experts and cardiologists, the most common heart disease among women is coronary artery disease, in which plaque forms and blockage occurs in the tubes that carry blood from the heart to other organs.
Due to hormonal changes in women’s bodies after menopause, they are more prone to this disease. Because of the “arrhythmia,” they are at higher risk of heart attack. In this, their heart beats either very slowly or very quickly. Apart from this, the risk of heart failure is also higher in them.
Why are heart diseases dangerous in women?
According to health experts, symptoms of heart disease in many women are only visible when a serious medical emergency such as a heart attack occurs. The symptoms of heart disease in women are very different from those in men and therefore go unnoticed. The type of heart disease a woman has is known only by her symptoms.
Apart from this, not all heart patients already suffer from a disease. Some people lead a healthy lifestyle, but many factors like stress, anxiety, and pollution can also become the cause of a heart attack. However, women do not take high blood pressure more seriously and the problems increase due to their negligence.
