YMCA Forever Well Program Offers Active Lifestyle to Older Adults

CLARION, Pennsylvania. – The YMCA of Clarion County is offering classes to promote an active lifestyle in older adults.

The Forever Well program offers a wide range of classes for all levels. Land classes are free for SilverSneakers and YMCA members or $25/month for non-members/$3 for non-members. Water classes are $5 per month for members.

SilverSneakers Classic (Beginner) Monday and Wednesday 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Have fun and move to the beat of the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscle strength, range of motion and activities of daily living. Hand weights, elastic tubes with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball for resistance are offered. A chair is available if needed for sitting or standing support.

Senior on the ball (intermediate) Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30-10:15 a.m.

For the older person who needs more of a challenge. This class includes a variety of muscular strength and range of motion activities, all performed while sitting on a stability ball. If you prefer, you can sit on a chair instead of the ball.

Senior Strength and Stability (Intermediate) Tuesday, Thursday 10:00 –11:00 a.m.

This class is designed to increase strength, balance, coordination, agility, endurance, and flexibility. Each class consists of a full body workout using bands, hand weights, medicine balls, and your own body weight for resistance exercises. A stability ball and chair are also available if needed. Each class also includes stretches for range of motion and movement exercises for balance and agility.

Senior Step Up (Advanced) Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00-9:00 a.m.

For the senior who needs a “step above” the Senior on the Ball class. The class includes cardio, strength, and flexibility training, all in one low-impact class.

SilverSneakers Yoga Friday 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Move your entire body through a complete series of sitting and standing yoga poses. The chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of motion. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

MAJOR SPLASH WITH RENEE

Activate your need for variety. Senior Splash offers a fun movement in shallow water to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. The level can be easily altered and will help with balance, strength, and coordination.

  • Tuesday 8:45 a.m.—9:30 a.m. Thursday 9:00 a.m. –9:45 a.m.
  • $5 entrance fee per class for non-members
  • Monthly Fee: $5/Members; $27/non-member

AQUA CARDIO WITH SUSAN

This high-energy cardio class focuses on stretching, toning, muscle strengthening, and cardiovascular exercises while using equipment and water resistance. This class is easily modified for various levels and offers a fun environment.

  • Tuesday and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
  • Monthly Fee: $5/Members; $40/non-members;
  • $7 entry fee per class for non-members

AQUATIC ARTHRITIS

Classes are low-impact, often use flotation aids, and are designed to meet the needs of enrollees. Soothe your joints in our warm water pool! The instructor is certified through the Arthritis Foundation.

  • Tuesday and Friday 12:00 p.m.—1:00 p.m.
  • Monthly Fee: $5/Members; $27/non-members;
  • $5 entrance fee per class for non-members

WATER SPLASH

This energizing workout in the water will keep your heart rate up and your muscles moving. This class is fast paced but easily modified for all skill levels. Join a great workout!

  • Monday and Wednesday 5:00 pm—6:00 pm
  • Monday and Thursday 12:00—1:00 pm
  • Friday 8:00—9:00 a.m.
  • Monthly Fee: $5/Members; $27/non-members;
  • $5 entrance fee per class for non-members
