‘Younger Me Would Be Proud’: Maltese Personal Trainer Opens Up About 35kg Fitness Transformation

A Maltese personal trainer opened up about his own physical transformation and how he managed to find a balance between health and play in life.

Uploading two images side by side comparing where he started and where he is now, Mark Grech highlighted how he “understands that not everyone is born an athlete” and how this mindset actually helps him coach others who are not athletes by default.

While the two photos shared were taken eleven years apart, Grech had lost 35kg over the course of two years when he first embarked on his fitness journey.

“When I reflect on my transformation I feel like the ‘all or nothing’ mentality and initial motivation only lasted a few months. The real change started when I accepted that things take time,” Grech told Lovin Malta.

“I used to tell myself that I only need to improve 0.1% each day and I’ll get there. Of course, I still feel there is more to achieve, but I am in no rush to do it, the journey is the reward itself, so find a way to enjoy it,” he said.

“If you are about to embark on this journey, my advice would be: don’t stress, remember why you started and never give up.”

In his initial Facebook post, which garnered many people’s attention and support, Grech highlighted how he managed to find balance in the things he enjoyed doing.

He talked about how, as a kid, he was never one to have a six pack or come first in a sports competition.

“In fact, I wouldn’t have considered myself a ‘fit’ person at all. When I was younger, I was more interested in playing World of Warcraft all day, listening to Metallica, drinking jager-bombs and eating burgers at 4 am after a night out,” he detailed.

“To this day I still play video games from time to time, listen to heavy metal and still enjoy hamburgers. The point is that I have found a balance in the things that I enjoy doing…and still have time to get in shape,” she said.

“I would say that my younger self would be proud. Because I didn’t change myself, but rather evolved to adapt to a healthier life.”

He went on to say that this is precisely why people train with him, because he understands that not everyone is born an athlete, and not everyone will break records and have the perfect body.

“But everyone deserves a chance at a healthier life.”
