Unhealthy foods for babies : Every parent wants to keep their children healthy. For this, all kinds of measures are adopted starting with nutrition. To provide them with adequate nutrition, apart from milk and fruits, they are given baby food sold in the market. Nowadays, the demand for baby food has increased considerably.
But do you know how dangerous these baby foods are for your child? A new study has revealed that more than 60% of baby foods sold in the United States do not meet WHO nutritional guidelines, putting children’s health at risk.
Baby food is dangerous for children’s health
Packaged baby food sold in the United States can reduce children’s nutrition instead of increasing it. Because of this, children can face many problems as they grow up. The research, conducted at the Australian medical research center, the George Institute for Global Health, examined 651 commercial baby food products purchased from major American grocery chains from March to May 2023. In which it was found that the World Health Organization’s 2022 standards were not met. In which it is mandatory to have 70% protein.
Only 44% of protein was found in these products. The sugar level in them was also found to be well above the prescribed limit. In addition, the calorie content of one in four products was also not correct, while the sodium content of one in five products was very high.
Why is baby food dangerous?
Dr. Elizabeth Dunford, a researcher at the George Institute and assistant professor in the department of nutrition at the University of North Carolina, said there is rapid growth in early childhood. During this time, good eating habits are formed.
If we neglect our eating habits during this period, it can increase the risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes or cancer later on. Children should not be given too much sugar or processed foods at the beginning. Otherwise, many problems could arise later on, including high blood pressure and heart disease.
These foods can be deadly for children
The BMJ published a research report from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health stating that eating too much ultra-processed foods like processed meat, sugary breakfast foods and sugar can increase the risk of premature death several times. Children should therefore be given proper nutrition from childhood, so that such problems do not arise in their lives.
