Six schizophrenic brothers tells the story of the Galvin family as Don and Mimi Galvin gave birth to 12 children, six of whom suffer from schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is a long-term mental health condition that leads sufferers to see, hear or believe things that are not real.
Where will the Galvin family be in 2024?
As detailed in the official. Galvin Family Trust website, today only two of the Galvin brothers are still alive: Donald and Matthew.
Three of the six Galvin brothers affected by schizophrenia died prematurely: Brian, Jim and Joseph, and two of the deaths were related to the medications used to treat their conditions.
The profile indicates that Donald Galvin is “quiet and reserved” these days. The family noted his love of car trips, McDonald’s cheeseburgers and filet of fish, and visits to the ballet, opera, symphony, or theater.
He added that he often sits silently and avoids intervening in conversations, noting how it is “Friendly and very polite.” The family trust also noted that he can become very talkative, but will often be “It’s hard to follow their logic.”
Peter was tragically the last of the brothers to pass away, as he died in his sleep on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, just one month before his 63rd birthday.
The site noted that he was a musician who loved playing records, the Beatles, and getting together with his family. He enjoyed attending hockey games at Colorado College and the Air Force Academy.
Matt (who is still alive) is also a music fan, as shown in the photo on the family fund website with his flute and acoustic guitar.
The site noted a major transition he went through in 2020 as he went from living independently in a Section 8 apartment (housing for low-income households) to a skilled nursing facility after several months of hospitalization.
While Galvin’s parents, Don and Mimi, have died, his two daughters who do not have schizophrenia are still alive: Margaret Galvin Johnson and Lindsay Galvin Rauch, both in their 50s.
