As the US presidential election approaches, a series of posts ridiculing President Joe Biden’s fitness to serve another term are widely shared, but the images are often manipulated or taken out of context.
Criticism of Joe Biden’s mental health and age of 81 has dogged him throughout his presidency, and accusations that he is too old and senile for office came thick and fast in the run-up to the US presidential election. this year.
Many of these claims are supposedly supported by video evidence of the US president acting strangely, but they are usually manipulated or taken out of context.
Take the video below, which appears to show Biden wandering or otherwise distracting himself at a G7 summit in June.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni apparently has to take him back to the rest of the group.
However, the video it has actually been trimmed and shortened.
In the full video easily. found on youtubeBiden clearly observes and interacts with participants in a skydiving demonstration rather than staring into the distance.
Some of the other world leaders can also be seen looking in the same direction.
Did Biden fall asleep live on air?
In a separate incident, this YouTube short film purports to show Biden sleeping during a live interview.
But it’s been completely made up: it’s actually two unrelated videos spliced together.
One is from 2011 and is taken from a Eyewitness News Interview with Harry Belafonte, in which the actor and singer appears to be sleeping.
At the time, Belafonte’s spokesman said he was not sleeping but meditating and that his headset was not working.
The images of Biden, on the other hand, are actually taken from a video 2020 in which he has the support of Hillary Clinton.
While Clinton speaks, Biden often looks down and may sometimes appear to close his eyes, but there is no evidence that he falls asleep.
False D-Day Anniversary Claims
More false assumptions emerged from the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.
Some claim that this footage shows Biden trying to sit in a non-existent chair.
But in its entirety, unedited videoyou can see the chair in several points.
At the moment in question, he looks over his shoulder, pauses while the next speaker is announced, and then sits down.
Others claim that another video Later in the ceremony, Biden is shown randomly turning around and facing the wrong direction.
This supposedly makes his wife Jill, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron also turn around to cover him.
Again, if we look at the Complete video Taken from a different angle, we can see that Biden turned to salute the veterans as the final message, a familiar military bugle call, was played.
Biden’s doctor said in February that the president “continues to be fit for duty and fully executes all of his responsibilities without exemptions or accommodations.”
The debate over whether there should be a limit on the age of politicians in service is valid, but it is worth remembering that there is no evidence that Biden, 81, is handicapped by his age.
It should also be noted that his main rival in the presidential race, Donald Trump, is not far behind at 78 years old.
Either way, Europe will follow the November elections closely because of the strong ties that the EU and individual European states have with the United States, not only economically but through NATO and Ukraine’s mutual support against the Russian invasion, to name a few ways.
