Cancer is a serious and deadly disease. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world; every year, millions of people lose their lives due to this disease. It is a disease that has no boundaries, it can happen to anyone, at any age. It is such a dangerous disease that it can affect even the socio-economic background of the entire family. However, a recent study has expressed great concern about this: the number of deaths due to cancer in men will increase by 2050.
For this reason, men are at greater risk of developing cancer than women.
As life expectancy increases worldwide, so does the risk of developing cancer. Older men are more susceptible to certain types of cancer, such as prostate and lung cancer, which are among the most common forms of cancer in men.
This research was carried out considering all 185 countries.
Researchers looked at 30 types of cancer and demographic data from 185 countries and territories to estimate cancer incidence and mortality rates in men. In this research, researchers found that men are more likely to smoke and drink alcohol than women, which increases their risk of cancer and cancer-related death. Additionally, men are more likely to be exposed to carcinogens at work and are less likely to get screened for cancer.
People over 65 are at risk
According to the researchers, men aged 65 and older had lower survival rates than younger men because they are less tolerant of treatment and are diagnosed later in life. In addition, some of them cannot afford their health care. Over the same period, the number of older men dying from cancer is estimated to increase from 3.4 million to 7.7 million, while the number of new cases will increase from 6 million in 2022 to 13.1 million by 2050.
The researchers also identified differences in cancer rates depending on the economic situation of different countries. “Between 2022 and 2050, in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, the number of incident cases and deaths is expected to increase 2.5-fold. In contrast, an increase of about half is expected in Europe,” the researchers wrote.
There will be an increase in this percentage from 2022 to 2050
Lung cancer is expected to be the leading cause of cancer cases and deaths worldwide by 2050, increasing by more than 87% between 2022 and 2050. Colorectal and prostate cancers are next. Prostate cancer will become even more deadly by 2050. At the same time, more people could die from skin cancer.
