Shortcut to 10,000 steps per day: Staying fit despite changing lifestyles and eating habits has become a major challenge. The sedentary lifestyle, in particular, now increases health risks. The risk of cardiovascular diseases increases in particular. The main reason for this is too much physical inactivity. Which has become a major problem not only for a given country, but for the entire world.

According to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. Because of this, 3.2 million people die every year. This problem increased even more during Covid 19. Because in the meantime, people no longer had any opportunity to do physical activity.

Are ten thousand steps necessary?

To stay in good physical shape, it is advisable to walk ten thousand steps daily. But is it really necessary? According to the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, walking 3,867 steps per day can also prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease. Walking just 2,337 steps is enough to avoid the risk of death from this disease.

To arrive at this conclusion, the data was prepared by talking to 226,889 people from 17 countries. After which, it became easy to conclude that health benefits can be achieved even by following a few steps.

What benefit for how many steps?

According to the study, simply taking a thousand steps each day reduces the risk of death from disease by fifteen percent. By taking an extra five hundred steps, the risk of cardiovascular disease increases by up to seven percent. The study suggested that taking four thousand steps a day significantly reduces the risk of death from any cause.

After sixty years, taking 6,000 to 10,000 steps per day reduces the mortality rate by 42 percent. If young adults take 7,000 to 13,000 steps, they can reduce this risk by 49 percent. This study was carried out jointly by cardiology expert Maciej Banach from the Medical University of Lodz, Poland, and Professor Banach from Johns Hopkins University.
