Medicine exports to India: After giving the world the Made in India vaccine during the Corona outbreak, India’s dominance in the medical field continues to grow. The situation is that around 60 percent of the world’s vaccines are exported from India, while India also sends 20 percent of the generic drugs consumed globally. Have you ever wondered how many countries India supplies medicines to? Believe me, you will be surprised if you know this number.
India sends medicines to around 200 countries
According to Dr Veermani, Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmaxil), India’s dominance in the pharmaceutical industry continues to grow. At present, India sends medicines to around 200 countries across the world. These include providing comprehensive solutions in API, finished drug shipping, clinical research and pharmacovigilance, etc. Let us tell you that he had given this information during the CPHI and P-Make India Pharma exhibition organized at the Expo Center in Greater Noida. New technologies to increase export and production of Indian medicines were also discussed here.
Many countries rely solely on Indian medicines
If we look at the numbers, India is leading in terms of manufacturing and export of generic medicines. Cheap medicines for dangerous diseases like hepatitis B, HIV and cancer are manufactured only in India. If we only talk about Africa, India meets 50% of the demand for generic medicines. Apart from this, India exports 40 percent of its total generic drug requirements to America and 25 percent to Britain.
India’s dominance will reach this level by 2047
Looking at data from platforms like CPHI, India’s capacity in this area is constantly increasing. According to Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets India, India currently exports medicines worth around $55 billion. If seen in Indian rupees, this amount is more than Rs 4 lakh crore. By 2030, this figure could reach $130 billion and by 2047, India will be able to export medicines worth up to $450 billion. He said that the policies of American and European countries are very strict in the pharmaceutical sector, but in recent years, Indian companies have also made inroads in these countries. Today, the situation is such that even if India were called the Pharmacy of the World, it would not be wrong.
