Not only your personality, your fingers also indicate how much alcohol you drink!

Finger length and drinking habits: By now you must have heard that fingers reveal your personality. But you’ll be surprised to know that your fingers can also determine what the connection is between you and alcohol. In other words, how much alcohol can you drink? Yes, this may sound a little strange, but it was revealed in a recent study. The study explains how your drinking habits can be predicted by looking at the fingers on your hand. Tell us about this study…

A new study published in the American Journal of Human Biology indicates that the ratio of the length between your index and ring fingers can predict how much alcohol you can drink. In this study titled “2D:4D Ratio,” it was shown that there is a relationship between the length of the index finger (2D) and the length of the ring finger (4D). This ratio is not randomly determined based on anatomy but comes from the amount of testosterone and estrogen felt in the uterus.

What does the study say?

In general, people exposed to high levels of testosterone before birth have a lower 2D:4D ratio. This means that their ring finger is longer than their index finger, while this ratio is higher in people exposed to more estrogen. In this study, students from 258 universities, including 169 girls and 89 boys, were examined. The average age of all was 22 years old.

The researchers measured the length of their fingers using a caliper and assessed their drinking habits using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) , a list of questions developed by the WHO.

Link between alcohol and testosterone levels

In this study, a team of scientists from Swansea University and the Medical University of Lodz in Poland found that a low 2D:4D ratio indicates high prenatal testosterone levels. These people are more likely to drink alcohol. The risks associated with alcohol are also higher there. While men and women with a low 2D:4D ratio drank less alcohol, their audit trail grew longer and longer.

How to tell if you are drinking alcohol by looking at your finger?

According to the study, the fourth finger of heavy drinkers is longer than the second finger, indicating higher testosterone levels than exposure to estrogen before birth. Interestingly, it is more effective for the right hand than the left hand. This means that right-handers’ hormones may be more attracted to alcohol.
