A 24-hour gym at Golden Era Plaza in Mong Kok reopened at midnight and saw about six people working out around 3 a.m.

A man surnamed Wong, who came from Kowloon city for the first training in months, said he couldn’t wait any longer after learning the gym would reopen at midnight.

“I haven’t exercised in months, so I came to get some exercise right away,” Wong said, adding that he had done simple exercises at home amid the pandemic, but it wasn’t as good as going to the gym.

Another 24-hour fitness chain, 24/7 Fitness, also announced that it will resume operations at midnight. At its branch in San Po Kong, there were already five citizens waiting to exercise before 12 am and they saw dozens more over the next half hour.

A man surnamed Lee, who has been exercising for five years, said he was very excited about the reopening, adding that he had put on four to five kilograms since the beginning of this year and “it’s time to say goodbye to them.”

He also said that he didn’t have to work tomorrow, so he left home at 11:50 pm to get downtown just in time: “Muscles can’t wait! I really have to start now!”
