Heat stroke occurs when the body temperature exceeds 104 degrees Fahrenheit and the body’s mechanism fails to regulate the temperature.
Tips to prevent heat stroke:
- Keep hydrated: This is the golden rule to avoid health problems. Keeping the body hydrated is imperative to surviving high temperatures. Increase the intake of water and other healthy liquids, since during heat waves or summer in general, the body tends to sweat a lot, where salts are lost. Therefore, to maintain electrolyte balance, water and drinks are important.
- Wear loose clothing: Wear clothes with light colors and that are a little loose. Clothing should allow the body to breathe so that it can cool off while sweating.
- Apply sunscreen: When going outside, remember to apply sunscreen and wear sunglasses to protect your skin and eyes from damage from the sun’s UV rays.
- Avoid going out: Try to avoid going out into open areas, especially at midday when the sun scorches the sky and leaves us all parched and dry.
Wear a cap, carry an umbrella to avoid direct heat from the sun falling on your head. These are just basic precautions to keep in mind to avoid becoming dehydrated or suffering from heat stroke.
