ALERT! Those who sleep during the day should wake up…you may be exposed to this disease.

Sleep and dementia: Do you also feel very sleepy during the day? If so, be careful, as the risk of dementia increases as a result. Dementia occurs when brain cells begin to degenerate and become progressively damaged over time. It affects a person’s memory, creates confusion, personality begins to change and even daily routine becomes difficult. This was revealed in a study. Its risk is higher in older people. Dementia is the fastest growing neurological disorder in the world. Alzheimer’s disease is a common type.

Risk of dementia due to poor sleep

A new study published in the journal Neurology has linked poor sleep to dementia. It was found that 35.5% of participants who suffered from excessive daytime sleepiness developed cognitive motor risk syndrome. In this study which lasted approximately 3 years, 445 elderly people were known, whose average age was 76 years. At first everything was fine, but later a link between sleep and dementia was discovered.

What does the study say?

Researchers found that people who reported poor sleep were more likely to have motor cognitive risk (MCR) than people with good quality sleep. However, this link weakened when depression symptoms were added, suggesting that poor sleep alone may not be responsible for MCR when mental health is taken into account.

Many problems in those who sleep during the day

In the study, sleep quality was checked using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PHQI). This included factors such as sleep duration, sleep cycle deterioration, and being active during the day. Of these, only excessive daytime sleepiness and low arousal were associated with higher risk of MCR. Researchers advised avoiding sleeping during the day and focusing on improving mental health. Because both things can cause dementia.
