Lung cancer Non-smoker: Even those who do not smoke cigarettes or bidis get lung cancer. A recent study has made a shocking revelation. It has been found that genetics is also a major cause of lung problems in India. This research has revealed that in India, a large number of people who do not smoke also fall prey to lung cancer. Air pollution is also a major cause of lung cancer.
Lung cancer risk from air pollution
Researchers have found in different types of studies how air pollution and other environmental factors increase lung cancer. A research published in The Lancet’s Clinical Medicine, after reviewing available data from Southeast Asia, found that most people suffering from lung cancer in India do not smoke cigarettes, bidis or any other type of tobacco.
Smokers have twice the risk of cancer
In this study, citing the World Air Quality Report 2022, the researcher claims that out of the 40 most polluted cities in the world, 37 are located in South Asia. Of these, 4 are in India alone. This proves that smoking doubles the risk of lung cancer. In people who do not smoke, bad air and many environmental factors cause cancer.
irreducible problem
The year 2022 saw 81 climate-related disasters. The Asian countries most affected by natural disasters are China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. These countries recorded the highest number of new lung cancer cases in 2020, which was over 9.65 lakh. Scientists said that with climate change, air quality would also deteriorate and lung cancer would increase rapidly, which would be nothing short of a major challenge for Asia.
