5 tips to maintain your weight this Diwali

  1. Eat Wisely: Think before you eat, and choose healthier alternatives to other sugar-loaded drinks, such as fresh fruit over dessert, grilled snacks over fried foods, lemonade, and sugar-free alternatives. Makhana, sometimes known as fox nuts or lotus seeds, is one of the best foods to choose and is relatively low in calories. Avoid seeds and nuts as they are high in calories.
  2. Portion your meals: Choose small plates to eat from and take small portions of food. Moderation is essential, and one of the easiest ways to control calorie intake is to eat small amounts of food. One can avoid excessive calorie intake and feel lighter and better. If a whole dessert is offered and no one can say no, take some and keep the rest back.
  3. Don’t miss your workouts: You can do different types of workouts during festivals. It’s not necessary to go to the gym during this time, but trying routines like dancing, 15-20 minutes of cardio exercise, 15 minutes of bodyweight exercises, or a long, brisk walk can help. Listen to your body for when to stop.;
  4. Learn to politely say no to social pressure: Resist your temptation to push hard and smile and say “no thanks” to what you don’t want. Try replacing soft drinks or sweetened juices with water and herbal tea options.
  5. Back on track after the festivities: Slowly and gradually get back into your routine with your workout, as it will help reduce the extra kilos absorbed during the festivities.
