Bodybuilders Brett Wilkin and Iain Valliere Tackle a Heavy Quad-Focused Workout | BarBend

open split body-builder Brett Wilkins performed a brutal leg session with another competitor Iain Vallière and coach matt jansen on April 5, 2022. Although he is relatively new to the Open division, Wilkin’s competitive career is well under way, as is his YouTube channel. wilkin published his first videoa arm training sessionin February 2022, just six weeks before the 2022 Arnold classic – ranked sixth overall on his debut. Since then, she has been adding content regularly, including “a day in the life” videos, Arnold prep, and more training.

In his most recent charge, Colorado resident trained legs with fellow open athlete Iain Valliere and his trainer Matt Jansen at the Revive gym in Stuart, Florida. Wilkin visited the gym to train with Valliere and Jansen and explained that would move to the Sunshine State in six to eight weeks, which he feels is the best move for his career. Wilkin turned professional in 2018 as classic physique competitor, but then did a few shows in 2019: toronto professional and Puerto Rican professional – at 212 division. However, the Iowa native took two years off to pack even more dough in preparation for his debut in the men’s open bodybuilding at the Chicago Pro 2021. He finished second, just behind Guild Hunter. Wilken acquired the nickname “The Butcher” after this show due to his impressive conditioning.

Iain Valliere and Matt Jansen

Valliere is the brother-in-law of the three-time Classic Physique Olympia champion. chris bumstead (also appears in the video). Valliere has been on an absolute hot streak, recently winning the Tampa Pro 2021 and Texas Pro 2021 shows and placed second at the 2021 Arnold Classic. He is already qualified for the Olympia 2022having placed seventh overall at the biggest bodybuilding show in 2021.

Brutal training session focused on quad

Below is a detailed breakdown of the exercises from Wilkin and Valliere’s training session.

leg extensions and machine adductors

Although it is often used as heating exercise, these leg extensions They were brutal from the start. They worked up to a heavy top set, then implemented a break-pause training strategy that involves dropping the pin two points below the heaviest weight on the rack, performing 10-12 reps, resting 15 seconds, going again to failureresting 15 seconds and then doing a few more reps to failure.

With his quads fully powered up and activated, it was time to get on the leg press machine and stack on the weight. The pair of IFBB pros used the Cybex leg press machine, a version of the leg press that Wilkins prefers to emphasize the quads.

It just fully loads the quads, it’s a smaller platform on top.

Valliere also mentioned that the machine’s steep angle, which shifts the load to the front of the thighs, allows for a more significant stretch throughout the range of motion. They performed two top sets, with Wilkin managing around 20 reps with 10 plates on each side. Valliere did about 20 repetitions with 11 plates on each side.

As if they no longer had jelly legs, the massive monsters they were instructed to do hack squats with a pause at the bottom which could cause the majority to reach the bin. They did some really heavy overhead squats on the short squat machine.

Big white bite!

Between sets of leg presses, the camera showed a scar on Wilkin’s right quadriceps, which he said was the work of a great white shark while vacationing in the Florida Keys in 2013. Valliere had a similar experience: he was bitten in the triceps by a shark. There is no known correlation between professional bodybuilding and shark bites, but it is another similarity these training partners have.

Bodyweight Walking Lunges

Last but not least, walking lunges completed the brutal leg session. there are many different lunge variationsand they have many benefits, especially with additional load. However, the duo performed thrusts more like a finisher to open and section the legs.
