Once again, rainy weather for the second year in a row did not deter attendees from a special fundraising event.
More than 100 people gathered at City Hall on Saturday to take part in Cambridge Moves for Mental Health.
The fundraiser for Porchlight Mental Health and Addiction Services raised $13,000 in online donations alone.
“We still have to tell what else is coming that day,” said Cameron Dearlove, CEO of Porchlight. “We are very happy”.
Attendees walked an accessible route of 2.5 or 5 kilometers before returning to City Hall for lunch.
“All of these people are walking around downtown Cambridge wearing their Cambridge Moves for Mental Health t-shirts, which shows that these kinds of things are important to us,” Dearlove said. “It’s all part of reducing stigma and opening doors for people to get the mental health help they need.”
Proceeds will go toward Porchlight’s upcoming move to a larger facility and continued support of those with mental health and addictions service needs.
“We’ve had it rain two years in a row, so the third time [next year] “It’s the charm,” Dearlove said. “The weather shows a little bit of the resilience that people have. The fact that everyone comes out on a Saturday to tell the community that mental health is important.”
