Fitness challenges are the new #motivator?

Physical activity has undoubtedly become the top priority for many, whether in terms of a healthy diet or regular exercise. But how do you keep yourself and others motivated in the midst of the pandemic? A fitness challenge is the answer some have been exploring!

Weekly challenges keep you active

As the physical trainer for the RunXtreme running group, Tarun Walecha says the biggest challenge for him was keeping his group members engaged and motivated. “Since people had gotten comfortable with online interactions lately, we started virtual challenges for our group. We would create online groups for them to record their daily races and we would pick a weekly winner. We also gave them daily progressive tasks, such as the number of push-ups, squats, or a combination of such exercises to repeat day after day. These weekly challenges not only kept them physically active, but also kept them motivated to do more,” he says.

There are trophies, medals and exciting prizes for the highest scoring participants.

Sustainable approach to getting fit

In an attempt to keep everyone motivated, some have designed simple, basic challenges around diet and nutrition. “With small doable steps and achievable goals, our program is called Body Fat Optimization and Shape Up,” says Siddharth Choudhary of Gurgraon Road Runners, adding: “The best part is that these programs and challenges are independent of Covid scenarios. -19. All you need is a clean diet, quantified nutrition, and a sustainable approach. Our various challenges include saying no to white sugar, which is a week-long challenge. The second is the challenge of losing 1 kg of body weight in a week and losing 2% body fat in a month.”

In another challenge, #LetsGetFitterTogether, participants can engage in a variety of activities such as walking, running, biking, swimming, strength training, yoga, Zumba, aerobics, or even play a sport like tennis or badminton. “They need to record their activities through an app. The idea is to be consistent with some form of physical activity, and not just get fit as a New Year’s resolution. We want people to embrace healthier living as a whole, in addition to achieving personal fitness goals. And there are trophies, medals and exciting prizes from us for the highest scoring participants,” says fitness enthusiast Sandeep Mall.

“The long and challenging phase of the pandemic has surely taught one how being fit builds resilience to avoid the internal and external battles of life in all parameters. We are constantly looking for motivation and inspiration to create a better life. This led me to start the 100Day Health Challenge last year, which grew into a massive fitness campaign with 580 people connecting virtually to get fit together. And now, the new challenge is possibly the only one of its kind that will bring together 1,000 people with one goal: #LetsGetFitterTogether,” adds Mall.
