Hay Festival: Lauren Child says daydreaming helps child anxiety

Getting to know his young readers, he says, is one of the main pleasures of attending Hay.

“Giving the talk is its own thing, but it’s usually the back part, when people who maybe aren’t brave enough to raise their hand ask you something or tell you something really important and you end up having this little exchange.” she said.

“It’s a small moment, but I think what you probably don’t know is that it’s very nourishing for me.”

Child has sold more than six million books, which have been translated into 19 languages.

But she says it all comes down to allowing yourself to daydream.

“When we daydream, we use our imagination to escape the confines of our small bedroom. “We are using that special way in which we can think or believe in something.”
