What is the difference between HIV and AIDS?
The full name of HIV is Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which attacks the white blood cells (WBCs) of the immune system and weakens immunity so much that the body is unable to recover easily from even minor injuries or illnesses. While AIDS is a disease caused by HIV. It is not necessary that all HIV-positive people get AIDS, but AIDS only happens to people who are HIV-positive.
When do HIV-positive people get AIDS?
AIDS is a later stage of HIV. Once a person is infected with HIV, cure is no longer possible, but with the help of medication, it can be prevented from reaching the dangerous stage. If HIV is not treated in time, it reaches the serious stage 3. This then becomes AIDS. Many people are HIV positive but do not have AIDS.
Symptoms of HIV infection
1. Symptoms begin to appear after two to four weeks.
2. Initial problems such as fever, headache, rash or sore throat
3. Rapid weight loss, diarrhea, cough, swollen lymph nodes
How dangerous is AIDS, what is the reason?
According to WHO, AIDS is not a disease, but when it occurs, immunity becomes so weak that the body easily falls prey to diseases and is unable to recover. AIDS is caused by the HIV virus, which can be transmitted through unprotected sex, through the blood of an infected person or during pregnancy, or from an infected mother to her child during childbirth.
HIV treatment and prevention
There is no cure for the HIV virus yet, but recently a successful trial of an injection to prevent it was conducted in South Africa, which can be prevented by administering it twice a year. Work on this is still ongoing. With the help of certain medications, HIV can be controlled and prevented from entering a dangerous phase.
HIV medications are called antiretroviral therapy (ART). To avoid HIV, one must be careful during physical intercourse. Only a clean and new syringe should be used. If symptoms of the disease appear, one should consult a doctor and, if necessary, take antiretroviral treatment.
