In a candid interview with Laptop, began: ‘I did Celebrity MasterChef, and I was really in a bad place. Mentally he wasn’t right and he shouldn’t have. Then in April, mom died, so last year was not a happy time for me.

We all go through times in our lives when we suffer from mental health issues, and we should talk about it. I wrote about it in my book, including the time I tried to kill myself.

“I’ve gotten a lot stronger as I’ve gotten older, but I still want to help other people as much as I can.”

Michelle went on to describe how difficult lockdown was for her last year as her mum was ‘going downhill’, especially at Christmas.

Although Mary ‘couldn’t go out’ due to poor health, her daughter kept busy shopping and helping out at a friend’s food bank.

The TV personality revealed that her mother Mary had passed away after a two-year battle with cancer last year.

Michelle said she was “devastated” by the loss, describing her mother as “the kindest woman I’ve ever met”.

She confirmed the news by sharing a heartwarming snapshot of herself with her mother at a cafe.

In her caption, she wrote: ‘My beautiful mom passed away on Friday April 30th. We are all devastated.

‘He leaves behind his partner Sid, his daughters Vicky and I, 3 grandchildren Charlotte, Jack and Maia and his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much and his little dog #nano from @alldogsmatter.

She was the strongest and kindest woman he knew. Fierce, protective, passionate, intelligent, funny, eloquent. She gave Vicky and I our #drive and #hunger for life.’

Michelle said her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer a couple of years ago and thanked the Royal Free London NHS oncology department for looking after her.

She wrote: ‘He was diagnosed with terminal cancer a couple of years ago but received treatment from @immunotherapyforcancer which gave him another couple of years.

He returned to Albert Square two years later before leaving for good in 1998.

Michelle later joined the cast of the soap opera Coronation Street and joined the ITV series as Stella Price in 2011.

He left the telenovela three years later, telling Manchester Evening News it was difficult to reconcile work in Manchester with her responsibilities as a mother to her daughter Maia, 24, in London.

She said, “I always said I’d only be on the show for three years, which is what I’ve done.” Everyone knows I’m a single mother and ultimately my daughter is my priority and it was difficult to split my time between Manchester and London.”

Michelle shares her daughter with her former partner Fabrizio Tassalini while she has been in a relationship with her boyfriend Mike Dawson, 38, for more than nine years.
