Side effects of online content: Spending too much time on online platforms is very dangerous not only for your eyes but also for your mental health. This has a direct effect on the brain. A study carried out by a team of UCL researchers and published in Nature Human Behavior has shown a link between mental health and excessive use of smartphones, laptops and social media.
This study found that people with poor mental health were more attracted to negative content online. Let us know what the study says and how harmful online content is to mental health…
What does the study say?
In this study, the online browsing habits of more than 1,000 participants were examined. The emotional angle of the searched web pages was checked. After that, they all spoke openly about their current mental health and condition. Researchers found that people with symptoms of poor mental health browsed negative content more often.
After watching these contents, the mood of these people deteriorated and to improve it, they had to look for more negative contents. Professor Tali Sharot, who participated in this study, said that these results clearly show that negative content can not only spoil a person’s mood, but can also lead to many mental problems.
