Omar Beckles launches mental health competition for local schools – Leyton Orient FC

Leyton Orient defender Omar Beckles is launching his own competition for Waltham Forest schools.

Focusing on messages around mental health awareness, the competition will give Key Stage Two kids across the county a chance to win some fantastic prizes.

The competition itself will put the creative side of the boys to the test as they design a shirt that the Leyton Orient team will warm up in the last game of the season against Tranmere Rovers.

Launched at Riverley Primary School last week, the assembly addressed what exactly mental health is and what we can do to help improve our own mental health.

“We are doing this to raise awareness of mental health in the younger generation and also use creativity to help remove the stigma that surrounds it,” Omar said at the launch.

“Having grown up in Waltham Forest, it means a lot to me to be back in my area, and now I want to use my platform to help bring about positive change.”

In addition to warming up the O’s in their designed kit, the winner will get:

  • A Leyton Orient shirt signed by Omar Beckles
  • A £250 voucher for PE equipment, provided by our partner Qualieach
  • The winning shirt framed and presented in a school presentation
