There are plans for a new 42-room mental health hospital near Mansfield.
The vacant Rainworth site will be an extension of Cygnet Healthcare’s existing site in the town.
The independent mental health services provider submitted a planning permission application to the Newark and Sherwood District Council.
Documents indicate the site would bring a “much-needed” health care facility to the area to meet demand.
Sherwood Lodge and Sherwood House currently operate from the site on Rufford Colliery Lane.
Sherwood Lodge serves men with learning disabilities and complex needs and Sherwood House is a specialist high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for men.
The new building would be an extension of the existing psychiatric hospital.
The documents state that the building will be “modern and contemporary, demonstrating the very best in healthcare provision.”
The building will comprise two pavilions, accommodation and office space and there will be 42 parking spaces on the site.
The documents stated: “The development proposes a new facility to increase the quality, scope and capacity of existing specialty care provided by Cygnet Health Care on adjoining land.
“The overall layout of the unit allows for full connectivity around the building and interconnecting straight corridors. This is to ensure good sight lines within the building and allow easy and safe movement for residents and staff.
“There will also be a variety of colors and material finishes within the building, ensuring a personal, homey feel to the building that residents and visitors will find welcoming and relaxing.”
