Body temperature only increases in pyrexia.
So understand that the cancer has spread
Doctors say that if a cancer patient has the problem of pyrexia, it means that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body as well. According to Cancer Research UK, this condition can be serious. Pyrexia or fever is a symptom of all types of cancer. This is seen more in leukemia and lymphoma.
The risk of fever in these cancers is less
Breast cancer, lung cancer and intestinal cancer are less likely to have fever. However, the report says that in some cases, even in these cancers, the patient may get fever. If cancer has spread to the liver, it increases the risk of fever.
Why does fever come
It is generally seen that a cancer patient may have a problem of fever. Experts say that diseases which create more toxic elements in the body. They are more prone to fever. If there is fever due to cancer, then pyrogens can play a role in it. Tumors can produce pyrogens. Pyrogens interfere with the functioning of the hypothalamus. Due to this the body temperature increases. Actually, pyrogen is a substance (infectious organisms or their products toxins or cytokines). This increases the chances of getting fever.
