Sitaram Yechury, a prominent Marxist communist leader in Indian politics, breathed his last in the ICU of AIIMS at 3:05 pm on 12th September 2024. His age was 72 years. He was ill for a long time. It is said that he was suffering from a severe lung infection. Due to this, he was admitted to AIIMS on 19th August 2024 due to pneumonia.
Family to donate Sitaram Yechury’s body
Sitaram Yechury’s family has taken a big decision. That is, his family has donated his body to AIIMS, New Delhi for the purpose of education and research, leaving his legacy beyond his political contributions. Sitaram Yachuri’s mortal remains have been donated to AIIMS for the purpose of education and research, but because his family, party and relatives wish to pay their respects to Sitaram Yachuri, his mortal remains will be kept at the lower office on 14th September from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The body will be kept for homage after which it will be returned to AIIMS.

AIIMS carries out the process of preservation of the corpse
After the demise of Sitaram Yechury, as per the wishes of the family and his wishes, his mortal remains were given to AIIMS, thus AIIMS is completing the process of preserving his dead body. AIIMS In-Charge Professor – Media, Dr. Reema Dada gave this information to ABP News that after the demise, the body was taken to the anatomy department. (Anatomy department is the department where the structure of the body and the mutual relationships of its different parts are studied.)
When the corpse is “embalmed”, the fluids of the corpse are removed and replaced with a special chemical solution, which prevents the body from rotting and preserves it for a long time. After preserving the body, it will be given to the family to pay tribute to them.
The corpse will be used for education and research
AIIMS officials say that the step taken by Sitaram Yechury and his family to donate his mortal remains to the institute is commendable. The decision has been termed as noble. Let us tell you that first year MBBS students from preclinical subjects are made to study anatomy on cadavers. Apart from this, surgeons from orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ENT surgery practice on these cadavers.
